1.High school Summer Program

As you know, Özyeğin University offers courses for high school students during summer to provide authentic on-campus university life experience.

As ScOLa, we have been supporting this program by offering language courses in line with the needs of this target audience and the program. We will continue supporting High School Summer Program this summer and if you would like to take part in this program by offering the course below in 2021 Summer term, please send an e-mail to sule.bakircan@ozyegin.edu.tr by the end of 30.06.2021-Wednesday.

Please be informed that taking part in High School Summer Program is considered as extra work on top of your responsibilities in ScOLa.

 

2. Quality Talks #5

“Quality Talks” is a series of online event organized with the collaboration of Ozyegin University and Macmillan Education. It aims at providing insight into quality assurance in education and language learning and teaching in the post-Covid era. The series will consist of multi-phased panel discussions and sessions focusing on quality during distance education and beyond from the perspective of learners, teachers, teacher trainers, managers, education faculty members and education specialists with a variety of background.

The fifth session of the event, ‘Quality Management’, will look at quality from a management perspective and lend an ear to accreditation experts regarding the significance of quality in education. It will be held on Thursday, 1st at 15.30. The registration link can be found here.

Ludka Kotarska has been involved in English language training for over 35 years and has worked as a teacher, academic manager, school director and consultant. She was the Managing Director of ELS-Bell schools in Poland until 2016. She has been closely involved with Eaquals for  25 years as an inspector, Chair of Inspections Sub-committee and Eaquals Chair. In 2016 she was appointed Director of Eaquals Accreditation and Consultancy. She has participated as a speaker in professional conferences in Europe, Asia and the Middle East and has been engaged in projects related to the development of quality assurance schemes.

Eaquals is an international non-profit membership association that exists to promote excellence in language education. We are experts in accreditation, quality assurance, the CEFR adoption, and  we  conduct research and create resources to develop language teaching and learning throughout the world. We run three international Accreditation Schemes for all types of language teaching organisations, both private and public, and for the teaching of all languages in any country:

  • the Inspection Scheme for Higher Education Institutions
  • the Inspection Scheme Version 7. 2 addressed at language schools, foreign language departments of mainstream education schools and corporate training centres
  • the Inspection Scheme for Online Providers

 

Miranda Karjagdi Çolak holds a BA Degree in English from Prishtina University, MA Degree in ELT from Istanbul University and is a PhD candidate in TEFL program at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University.
She has an extensive English language teaching experience with students of all ages, including primary, secondary and high school level. For the past ten years she has worked as an English Instructor at the University level, and is currently the Department Head at the School of Foreign Languages at Bursa Technical University. Her interests include creative methodology for teaching and training, assessment for learning, international project management and qualitative research.

 

Didem Mutçalıoğlu received her undergraduate degree from the Department of English Language Teaching from Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) and completed her Master’s degree in the same field from Marmara University. She has been the Director of the English Language Programs at İstanbul Bilgi University since 2009. She successfully managed the CEA (Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) accreditation process, which resulted in the awarding of 5-year accreditation to the program during this time. During her tenure at İstanbul Bilgi University, she was the Academic English Program Coordinator of the Undergraduate Academic English Program on the EAQUALS Accreditation Committee, which resulted in the accreditation (2004) and the renewal of the institution’s accreditation (2007). In addition to these responsibilities, she has been directing İstanbul Bilgi University’s institutional accreditation efforts withWSCUC (WASC Senior College and University Commission) since 2015. She is also the Teaching, Learning and Quality Assurance Advisor under the İstanbul Bilgi University Institutional Development and Quality Coordination Office. Parallel to her efforts in institutional accreditation, she was accepted to the “WSCUC Assessment Leadership Academy” and completed a one-year program with regards to the “Consideration of Learning Outcomes by Administrative Units that contribute to courses, programs, the institution and education” in 2017.She participated in the CEA accreditation site reviewer training in 2018 and the CEA accreditation advanced site reviewer training in2019. She is one of the founding members and the current chair of The Association for Language Education, Evaluation and Accreditation (DEDAK). She is currently working towards her doctorate in higher education at the University of Liverpool.

Barry Tadman is the Publisher for Adult and Assessment at Macmillan Education. He taught ELT in Slovakia, Greece, Japan and the UK for 10 years specialising in teacher training, IELTS examining and preparation and English for university preparation. He has been involved in ELT publishing for 11 years and at Macmillan Education he has published Skillful Second Edition, Language Hub and Ready for B2 First. His professional interests lie in materials development, online assessment and developments in the CEFR.

Banu Küçük is the Director Foreign Languages Department at ADANA GÜNDOĞDU SCHOOLS. She is an experienced Head Of English Department with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry. She is skilled in Lesson Planning, Cambridge International School System, IGCSE, Tutoring, English as a Second Language (ESL), Classroom Management and Curriculum Development. She is also Team leader for Eaquals and CIS inspections.

 

Donald Staub is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the School of Foreign Languages at Izmir University of Economics in Izmir, Turkey. He also served for four years as the coordinator of the Quality Assurance Unit within the School of Foreign Languages at Isik University (Istanbul), where he served as the chair for the SFL’s two accreditation applications. Donald has a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University (EMU), and an MA (TESOL) and BA (Literature) from Michigan State University. Dr. Staub is a trained and experienced reviewer for the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA), as well on the leadership team of DEDAK, the Turkish language program accrediting body. He also has significant accreditation experience with institutions in the U.S. that have been accredited by NCA, SACS, and CAEP. His primary research interests lie in EFL quality assurance, student retention, and delivery of English medium instruction, with recent book chapters on quality assurance in EFL programs as well as quality assurance in ESP programs. His edited volume Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Foreign Language Education (Springer) was published in 2019.
