Session Title: Participative Speaking Activities

Instructor: Ahmet Çelik
Details: The main focus of the session will be on how to create a context and reason for students to feel the urge to speak through a both cooperative and competitive process. Moreover, how to train students to gain the ability to self-monitor and assess the process is another focus of the session to benefit from autonomous learning strategies. Finally, for teachers giving delayed feedback on speaking performance and its benefits will be put forward.

2. Özyeğin University High School Summer Program

As you may have already known, Özyeğin University offers courses for high school students during summer to provide authentic on-campus university life experience.

As ScOLa, we have been supporting this program by offering language courses in line with the needs of this target audience and the program. We will continue supporting High School Summer Program this summer and if you would like to take part in this program by offering one of the courses below in 2019 Summer term, please send an e-mail to esra.celik@ozyegin.edu.tr by 26.12.2018 stating which course you would like to be involved in.

Please be informed that taking part in this High School Summer Program is considered as extra work on top of your responsibilities in ScOLa.

3. WEBINAR: American English Live-Teacher Development Series 4

The American English team is pleased to offer American English Live: Teacher Development Series 4. The six online seminars of the series cover a variety of topics intended for teachers of English or future teachers of English around the world. At the end of each event, participants will have the opportunity to earn a digital badge that verifies their participation. Viewing group hosts, Public Affairs Offices, and Regional English Language Offices also have the option to issue e-certificates for those who attend four out of six sessions.

Participants are also encouraged to register to join the associated Ning, http://americanenglishwebinars.com, to participate in discussions, view related materials, and find recordings.
The series will take place from January 9 – March 20, 2019. These 60-minute sessions will be held every other Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. ET from Washington, D.C. (check http://timeanddate.com for the local time in your region). Participants can join the sessions by viewing the sessions on Zoom at the above times here: https://eca-state.zoom.us/j/975451162

Though not mandatory, registration is encouraged. Registered participants will receive email reminders with links to pre-session readings and online disucssions. Prior to each session, registered participants will receive a reminder email with a Zoom link from americanenglishwebinars@elprograms.org.
