Week 6: October 25-29
Please find the news and updates for this week below:
There are no common time sessions for the instructors or students on Wednesday this week as it is right before the holiday, but here is an update on how last week’s sessions went:
1. Last Week’s Common Time Professional Development Session
ScOLa Faculty Reading Club met for the first-time last Wednesday. The group read about and discussed the definition of social psychology, examples of successful psycho-social interventions at varied educational contexts and their relevance to our school and students at hand. The group concluded last week’s discussion by brainstorming about what kind of psycho-social interventions may address learning and teaching issues at ScOLa and which parties at the university may be called for partnership in such a process.
2. Last Week’s Student Development Session
Last Wednesday Esra Çelik Soydan gave a session on “How to Study Vocabulary” first in Turkish and then in English. In total, 38 participants joined the session. This session aimed at raising awareness of our students about what it means to know a vocabulary item and providing students with the necessary information and guidance on studying vocabulary effectively to be better language learners.
